BRITNEE N. TIMBERLAKE, MPA
FOUNDER

Britnee Timberlake is the Founder of New Jersey's only active affordable housing community land trust. In 2012, with less than $20,000 in seed money, Timberlake was challenged to launch a unique, affordable housing organization from incorporation to operation called the Essex Community Land Trust. Rising to that challenge, she created and grew the organization's housing portfolio, board, community partnerships, and funding base. To date, the organization has raised over $2,000,000 in housing subsidies, created solid community development partnerships, helped to extend the affordability deed restrictions for over 50 homes in Montclair, and participated in the rehab and creation of 13 traditional CLT units.

Britnee is a skilled administrator, fundraiser and has established a network of relationships within the nonprofit, political, business and financial communities. Britnee has established the ECLT as a leader in developing permanently affordable low- to moderate-income housing for the residents of Essex County. Driven by firsthand experience with predatory lending and foreclosure, Britnee is committed to providing high quality permanent affordable housing, warning against predatory mortgage loans to prevent future foreclosures, educating citizens in how to rebuild credit after destruction, and is committed to the CLT concept as a practical tool to help more people attain the "American Dream" while permanently strengthening communities.

With 13 years of experience, Britnee has worked with first-time home buyers in urban communities, assisted the homeless, and provided fundraising assistance and grant writing for various nonprofits. Britnee Timberlake has for-profit and non-profit experience both as an employee and as a small business owner. Britnee holds a Bachelors of Arts and Sciences in Political Science and a Masters in Public Administration concentration in Nonprofit Management both from Seton Hall University.
